School of Civil Engineering
The school of Civil Engineering was as a department in the year 2007 to meet the requirements of Civil Engineers in the state of Haryana & country.
The department endeavors to provide state of art education and lays great emphasis in developing technical skills and all round development of the student of Civil Engineering. The department offers the following programmes
Vision
The school of civil engineering envisages imparting quality technical education and field training to U.G., P.G. & research students and creating confidence to meet and accept the present day challenges of the field. With this aim, the department has vision to develop, convert and make each laboratory a full-fledged one having updated modern equipments and instruments to carryout not only the routine academic and research activities but also to offer high quality technical consultancy services to government and private organizations in the following areas
- Infrastructure development
- Software development
- Energy system development
- Water and Waste water treatment & management system
- Monitoring and testing system
- Design and analysis systems
- Sustainable Development
- Transportation Engineering
The future vision is also aimed at imparting training to various personals at rural level to provide better living environment.
Basic Objective
The demand of Civil Engineers is increasing & with the advancement of technology with widespread use of IT, the involvement of civil engineers is increasing.
They are involved as planners, designers, executors, managers, consultants, developers & educationists.
Faculty strength & Infrastructural facilities
Faculty strength: The school has team of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members to take care of overall growth of the Department. The University’s (hitherto Institute) infrastructure has been developed under the supervision and guidance of faculty members .This includes different types of buildings, Water supply and Wastewater Management Systems, Provision of R.O. Systems, Water harvesting and Solar Technologies directly applied in different structures.
In addition the school also takes into account optimum land use of the area and related designs of ever expanding demonstrative infrastructure of the University.
There is a large input of research work and developing & moderating innovative technologies. Most of the faculty members have research papers to their credit and all of them are associated with lab developments and introducing innovative lab Practices.
Major Course work
The Course work includes subjects like: Structural Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics/ Geo-Technology, Groundwater, Hydrology, Project Planning & Management, Water Supply, Sanitary Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Remote sensing, Environmental impact assessment etc. All of them are supported by well equipped labs.
Summary of Laboratories & Major Equipments
There are well equipped laboratories supported by suitable working equipments to take care the needs of practical application & help in learning testing skills: Laboratories like Structural Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Geology, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Concrete Lab. Transportation Engineering, with latest equipment form the backbone of School.
Best Practices / Innovations
The backbone of civil engineering training is to adopt a culture of exposure through relevant case studies in each individual subject and deliberation. Such case studies shall give them the insight in terms of negatives and positive of a project like developing dam site etc. These endeavors also would prepare student for the contents not included in the syllabus but relevant for further application.
Visits / Industrial Interaction / Practical training
The curriculum provides for summer training in an industry. It also provides for field interactions, Survey camps. It also insists on number of projects at different levels related to important aspects/groups of civil engineering course work. |
